QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS

Is anything from this year 2009 - in real life - relevant in game?
→ No. Basically, everything up until January 20th, 2009 in real life "happened" and everything else that was supposed to has yet to occur in-game like CDs, movies, etc. Things are now slowly getting back to normal on the surface, however. With due time there will be new releases of music, films, literature and the like — all dependent on those who create and decide the fates of those individual fields. Currently, music has been the field with the easiest time trying to reform itself.

Why did some people not get infected?
→ Basically? Because if everyone was infected we wouldn't have a game. But here's an in-game explanation to hopefully help you understand this a bit better. For every disease there is of course going to be at least a small handful of people born with a natural anti-virus and antibodies. Does this mean all of your characters are immune to infection? No. It does mean, however, that most people who did not directly inhale the airborne virus within the first 24 hours of infection were not instantly turned. In fact, only a small fraction of the world's population was actually infected with the disease at first; however, over time more and more were infected through contact with the infected, and that is what leaves us with so few survivors today.

How do people become infected now?
→ Ever seen a zombie movie? M'kay. It's like that. If you come into contact with an infected you yourself may become infected through the DNA of the infected. This means if they were to bite you, bleed into your mouth, spit into it or anything of the like you too would become infected. The infection takes a few hours to fully take effect, and some have shown signs of being able to resist for longer. If you become infected you are asked to show yourself swiftly to the nearest Revival Project safe haven for instant treatment.

What exactly is The Revival Project?
→ Something known to the public as only The Revival Project. It is a joint operation by the Governments of the World set about to restore life to all survivors. It is in place to protect and provide for the survivors of the outbreak, and they have even gone as far as to provide various training grounds for survivors so they may learn to better operate their own abilities. There are Force Groups within the Project set out to Make Safe the world for its survivors. The leader of the Revival Project is unknown, only that it is a joint effort from all the Governments of the World.

Why are our characters on Livejournal?
→ As part of the Revival Project people must join the community to keep track of several things. The Revival Project hopes that this will help interactions in the new society and possibly even help with finding relatives or friends that may also be survivors in the world. You are free to talk of anything you wish to talk about, the Revival Project urges you to act as if this was a journal you would have had pre-outbreak. They're also secretly keeping tabs on your characters' powers and what they have to say.

So, powers? How did they come about? How do they work? I just don't get it.
→ Basic human functions run off of about 10% of the human brain, not the same 10% every time, but only about 10% at any given time. When the pulse fanned out, it not only reset all technology but in fact tapped into the human brain itself - hard-resetting it, so to speak. Now, anyone who is not infected has developed some powers which are based within their brainwaves and patterns. While this might seem fun and all, some of these powers are highly destructive and need harnessing. Not to mention the fact that even those who have powers can still become infected thereafter.

So does that mean the infected can have powers, too?
→ Yes. There are, in fact, several highly dangerous infected beings who had developed powers before becoming such. Some of the infected have even gone as far as to keep upper level functioning within their brains, leaving basic speech patterns and movements in tact along with possessing strategical minds. These handful of infected are few and far between, though growing in number, but still extremely dangerous. Avoid at all costs. More on them within the infected listings.

Are there any limitations on the powers I can give my characters?
→ Much like any power-based fandom, no. Your characters can do most anything you want them to, as long as you put it down as their ability when you apply for them. There are certain in-game limitations that are applied, such as certain events not being the types that can be foretold by any means, but those are handled on a come-as-they-may basis. Otherwise, your characters are free to do with their abilities as you please! Any characters that might be able to tell inevitable outcomes or might have total knowledge of all existence are blocked from knowing any more than we allow to be known openly. As always, if you find yourself with any further questions on the topic feel free to contact the mods!

Are the cities the same as they are now, and are the cities listed the only cities still standing?
→ Yes and no, to both questions. The cities listed are the most functioning cities, and the ones quickest to receive help and salvation from the Revival Project. There are other cities, of course, that may hold survivors, but they have none of the restored technology handed to the cities listed within the game. These cities, and only these cities, live in a safer environment with electricity, running water, and even the internet now. The Revival Project will announce cities that have been properly quarantined as they become available.
→ Even within the cities listed, however, they are not the same. While most buildings still stand there is carnage and destruction scattered throughout. While the Revival Project is working hard and fast to rebuild anything lost, along with clearing the streets of any excess waste and death, there are still some locations which will look war-torn. And most importantly, infected can often be found within the cities.
→ A list of visitable but uninhabitable cities are listed at the Locations page. They are visitable by plane (and by teleporters, naturally), but there is a citywide curfew in effect for the protection of civilians due to the volatile nature of the surrounding areas. They are primed for becoming operation bases for the Revival Project in the future and are using them as test runs by allowing visitation. Visitors are placed in designated areas for their stay and only the downtown areas are accessible.

So do our characters have jobs? Homes? Families? Social Lives?
→ Yes. The Revival Project is hoping to quickly bring back the world to what it once was, giving jobs to any who need it, and even providing general needs for the survivors. There are clubs throughout each city open nightly, and musical acts have been formed from the survivors to provide entertainment in that form. While of course there are no new films to be shown, any films previously released are shown in cinemas everywhere once more. There is alcohol and food, including sweets and the such, available through the way they once were. Narcotics, while around, are found the same way they always were and are of course much more dangerous now. There are even trips that can be planned only through The Revival Project to visit one of the other safe cities through the world.

So is the President of the United States dead? Since D.C. isn't a listed city?
→ As far as is publicly addressed, Washington is no longer a safe zone for anyone to attempt to live in. The newly inaugurated President is known to be safe, though the current location of the President's residence is unrevealed to the general public (This also goes for all World Leaders. None of their current locations are disclosed to the general public for safety purposes). Washington is actually still standing, however, and is the official (but unknown) main base for the Revival Project. The Project decided it was safest to pretend this location no longer existed and doctored photos of the destruction of Washington have even been released.

Does my character have to remain in their city the whole time?
→ Not at all. Your characters can travel to any of the listed as safe cities. They can also travel to places not listed, but those places are not sanctioned by the Revival Project, and your character will not be protected en route to outside destinations. They are not safe. Infected central, basically. If you want to move them to another city - shoot us an email and we'll shift 'em for ya on the wiki. Not a problem!

Are private filters really private?
→ Yes and no. Only the technopaths and the Project can see anything marked as private/filtered to certain people, etc. Of course, no one knows this about the Project.

Why does this premise sound kind of familiar?
→ Probably because it has borrowed concepts from the likes of Resident Evil of video game fame, and Stephen King's book Cell. Maybe a dash of 28 Days Later, I Am Legend, and Heroes, too.

FORCE GROUPS

What are the Force Groups? What can they do?
→ The Force Groups are sections within The Revival Project set aside for handling the situations where Survivors are coming into contact with the Infected. They are powered survivors with an array of abilities, though there are specific powers within the Force Groups most often seen. They are as follows.

Warp Wave — Force Group members with the ability to create a quantum portal - a funnel of trans-spatial energy that swallows up him and any passengers to transport them over vast distances. The warp wave uses super-strings to connect any two locations on Earth. Sensitivity to displacement energy signatures enables the user to track other teleportation effects back to their origin from residual energies. After detecting this the user can also use the warp wave to travel to the location of the other teleporters.
Cryokinesis — Force Group members with the ability to freeze any local air moisture into super-hard ice. This ice can be formed into any object of their choosing: the only limitations are the imagination of the user, the amount of available moisture, and the ambient air temperature which determines how long the ice sculpture will stay icy. The user does not have to hold the ice physically with their hands in order to shape it. They can also create and fire projectiles through the air, using the moisture to push it along.
