Duck-hwa Shin

What can be said of this happy go lucky kid? Every day was an adventure, and continues to be as far as he is concerned. Since he was a young boy, he was always prone to run off on his own to find something new and interesting. Often this ended up with the neighbours and even the local authorities dragging him back after night fall, because he had gotten into one thing or another. Once he was reprimanded for going to the wrong place, he never went back. The one thing he had going for him was that he learned his lesson to never make the same mistake twice.

He could find fun in anything, and always had a brilliant imagination. Their family life was modest, but hardly a complaint was uttered from any of the children. As the eldest, Duck-hwa always took charge to try and keep things interesting. With each new sibling that came into his life, he didn't feel neglected. It was quite the opposite. He saw his world becoming bigger and felt more and more a sense of having to protect it. Thus, a big brother overprotective complex began at an early age for him.

Goodhearted as he always was, if anything happened to either of his younger siblings he reacted in kind. There's not a violent bone in his body until you mess with his family. For the most part, he was always well liked in everything he did, and because of his reputation - they saw no trouble. Being such an energetic boy, he dabbled in all sorts of things - sports, sword styles, martial arts - but settled on using just a simple katana in the kenjutsu style. He dabbled in nitoujutsu as well, but his preference is just the basic katana. He worked a few odd jobs just to save up and buy his own Japanese katana.

This knowledge he's quick to pass on to others, as he was quite a natural at it. While he didn't pursue it, he was somewhat of a prodigy. He doesn't think much of it unless someone completely questions his pride and that is something he defends almost as fiercely as his family. Though he prefers not to fight at all even now, he has a tiny hero complex that's developing that would prompt him to step in. The need to fight rarely arose, as the older he got the more friends he made with people he could keep close to his heart without any doubt ever creeping in.

When he was just about to enter high school, he began to take an interest in music. His siblings urged him to do something with his voice and his natural knack at picking out music on the guitar, but his modesty made him think there wouldn't be much to come of it until he heard them show off their talents. Between that and his equally talented posse of friends, he decided to give in and form a haphazard of a band without a name. He even began to write and while his grades almost started to suffer, he made up for it so that he wouldn't disappoint anyone. Anything he has ever done is so that he can stay in the good graces of his family, because their approval is all that matters to him.

But what he couldn't seem to bring himself to do was continue with school once he graduated. He was adamantly against it, and even more so against performing. Stage fright was a big issue for him, and so they only ever really did anything for family hence the band going unnamed. It never bothered him though, and he was content with his life.

All in all, up until the outbreak - he couldn't utter a single complaint. Now his biggest concern is keeping his family safe, so school has kind of taken a backseat.

• 01/31 — Was the cause of the power swap when he made a wish to understand his own ability. Naturally, he was the only one unaffected.

• 02/06 — Attended the Girls Abroad Tour in Hong Kong.

• 02/09 — Attended the Girls Abroad Tour in Beijing.

• 02/14 — The Shindig opened for the Girls Abroad Tour. Choon-Hee Nuna was his Valentine, bitches! And Koda Kumi gave him a kiss at the show, too!

• 03/20 — Grudgingly attended the Double V Wedding with his siblings.

• 03/22 — Helped out fighting infected when the hospitals were overrun with his gangsta crew.

• 03/24 — After hearing from Eun Eun about Mika Mika missing, Ducky left on his own to go find her in Chicago himself before having to add onto Juju's worries.

• 03/28 — Recovered Mika Mika and brought her back to Seoul. Feeling at a loss, he later went to Beijing to visit Han Han to get his mind off things.

• 04/04 — Went on a self-discovery mission with his trio!

• 04/12 — Returned home to Seoul.

• 04/14 — Attended the Single Divas Special. Started avoiding going home as much.

• 04/17 — Visited Nuna Choon-Hee~Valentine to start rehearsing and planning for the Lee Hyori Charity Games, and thus ended up staying over at her place for the following few days. They even had a talk.

• 05/01 — Attended Les Misérables production in London.

• 05/10 — Sang with Nuna Choon-Hee~Valentine at the Lee Hyori Charity Games.

• 05/12 — Launched himself hardcore into studying for his exams, and had been usin that as another excuse as to why he was rarely home.

• 05/23 — Took his big exams for getting into Uni!

• 05/29 — Received his acceptance into PNU.

• 07/11 — Brb Taiwan. Lucky Me concert!

• 07/20 — Helped defend Seoul during the attacks.

• 08/08 — Stopped by to sing for Hye-Jin. Then, made the big move to Busan with his bestest bff, Han Han.

• 08/10 — Stayed at home to look after Han Han during the second WDD in Busan.

• 08/13 — Started classes at Pusan National University in Busan.

• 09/05 — Said, "What if Cupid was around? I wish that was true..." and so...

• 09/06 — Took a trip to Taipei and saw some horrors, then went to Seoul to comfort his brother.

• 09/14 — Went back to Busan after missing too much class. Oops.

• 10/03 — Attended Dae's wedding!

• 10/24 — Performed at the Beautiful World Concert.. without his shirt!

• 10/31 — Hung around Han Han when hit hit the fan and helped wherever else he could.

• 11/04 — Went to Seoul with Han Han and rounded up his siblings to play his new song soyogi in a club in Tokyo and a few others~!

• 11/06 — Attended the Vanness and Vivian Halloween party in Taipei.

• 11/27 — Hot date with cute Japanese chick #1.

• 11/28 — Got visits from Jessica and Nuna to support him for getting INSULTED. Oh his pride!

• 12/15 — Vacation → Went to Honolulu with Han Han.

• 12/24 — Performed with The Shindig and Genkaku for On A Winter's Night both times.

• 12/27 — Went to Taipei with his latest girlfriend for a break and to ring in the New Year later.

• 12/29 — Showed up at a random street concert and sang some of his own songs, Send Away and A Song for You, with a surprise change in look~ Courtesy of his then-girlfriend, Soo-Young.

• 01/03 — Finally returned to Seoul after clubbing all night. Went out with Nuna for a belated birthday outing and he broke down after she gave him a present.

A goofy and energetic soul, there's not much that he won't do. He's a practical joker and likes to act like he's dumb when he's not. He's a very hard person to offend, and he'll say that he'll try anything at least once. Sometimes his humor can be a little on the perverted side, but if he knows he's made someone uncomfortable he'll segue into something else rather quickly. He's not entirely inconsiderate. Though not actively flirtatious when he likes someone, he does unintentionally flirt and as such comes across as a little feminine with his clueless nature.

Constantly acting like something he's not, he's a tad unpredictable. It's extremely hard to get him to act normal, but he knows when and where to be serious. He just likes to avoid those situations as much as possible. There's very few problems that can't be solved with laughter, he feels. Though he has a positive family upbringing to thank for this behavior, anytime he does screw something up beyond reproach - he's prone to being reprimanded rather harshly so he knows not to do it again. So, he makes sure to rarely screw up and when he does, that he never does it again.

He doesn't care if someone thinks he's weird or outrageous. He does as he pleases and if someone insults him, he blows them off with a very wide grin and a thank you. An expressive individual, he can dramatize like no other, too. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is pretty quick to give it out to the first pretty face he sees. He'll swear he'll love you if only for a day, but he'll never forget you either! Blunt? Definitely. Does he know his limitations? Sometimes. He's still a growing boy, after all.

One could say he's egotistical, but that sort of confidence could be his very best act yet. He's guarded, but open enough with everything else that it's hard to notice just what he's hiding behind that playful glint in his eyes. The most important thing to him is his family, and when he feels like he's let them down in anyway he's very hard on himself and distances himself to try and sort it out. Lately he's felt like he's done just that and is set on detaching himself from them so that they can grow on their own, because he's fairly certain he's only making things worse on them by trying to do everything on top of thinking he's begun to suck at protecting them.

The Answer — His powers are "the answer" to whatever he needs at the time. At rest, he may not demonstrate any superhuman powers. However, in the middle of a fight, struggle, etc., he will develop whatever abilities he needs at the time (only up to two powers at a time): superhuman strength, speed, durability, flight, formation of force fields, heightened senses, etc. Flight may be an ability he retains at all times. In some cases this is a conscious effort, as when he deliberately enhances his own hearing, and in other cases, it is his body's response to a situation. Also, in most cases his powers respond almost instantly, although there may potentially be situations where he is surprised and overwhelmed before his powers are able to adapt.

The Question — At times, when Ducky says "what if" it comes true. It's the only aspect of his manipulation that he has yet to master, but is what manifested after he lost complete control thereby causing the power swap.

Mother & Father — Overbearing and loving and about as silly as the kids are.
Juju — Technically, he's Ducky's younger brother by a year. Juju aged himself a bit, but Ducky feels he is still the senior. He's pleased with the way he has raised Juju and is glad he also has found himself a nice girlfriend! Now that Ducky's gainfully attending University, he feels confident that Juju can take care of business in his stead. Nevertheless, he will always remain protective of him and always sacrifices something of himself for the sake of Juju at the drop of a hat. Juju has the incredible knack for making Ducky feel really bad without meaning to and that has prompted Ducky to be that much more distant from his family.
Eun-Eun — Younger sister by two years. She's adorable. But oh god, she's at the dating age! He wasn't ready for this. She's headstrong and he's glad she can take care of herself. He tries not to wedge himself into her matters too much anymore, but she's his baby sister! He can't help it all the time. After getting reprimanded by her, he tried to make peace with her boyfriend and has tried to stop caring.

Han Han — Btfo 'cause this is his bff bitches. The ham to his cheese and all that good stuff, liek omg. Haneul is pretty good at seeing through Ducky and he values his friendship most of all. Although they don't talk about their deepest of personal issues often, they have a very tight bond and what he might call a manly understanding. Basically, he would be lost without Han Han. Other than the support of Choon-Hee Nuna, he feels ninety-nine percent of the time that he's the only person he can truly count on.
Sun Sun — Isn't he lovely? *____* He has, like.. the best friends ever. He was so appalled when Sun Sun thought they wouldn't want to be his friend for more reasons than just that he is amazing simply because Nuna is his Aunt. Silly Sun Sun. He hopes he has more faith in them now~!

girlfriend

Soo-Young — Current girlfriend! He is going to spend the new years with her, but intends to break up with her afterward. Oddly enough, she has become kind of a nice person to have around. He's not sure if he will, but after she styled his hair weird he's questioning his fidelity already. Still, her heart was in the right place and she's struggling to be a hair dresser so he lets her experiment on him. So, she's responsible for his blonde hair.

friendships

Angie — Met her when she was still an SM trainee. Now she's famous liek whoa! And still talks to him, so cool! He has to be nicer to Vivian now because of her, but hey man. Anything for Jessica Jung, amirite? All the same, Angie's really nice to him and more supportive than some people for him. She's kind of like a big sister to him, so he's starting to think he should call her Nuna...
Dae Seung — A formidable foe and ally in World of Warcraft. He met Dae online first, then ended up meeting him in real life and they hit it off all the same. While Ducky doesn't talk to him as much as he used to (Dae is a married man now), he attended his wedding and hearts him all the same.
Kyu-Kyu — If you told him the guy was an asshole, he wouldn't believe you. He has no idea how long they've been friends. All that matters is that they are! He's not one he keeps in touch with very well either, but still thinks of as a friend.
Mika Mika — She came to stay with his family, because his brother had the hots for her. He thought she was really nice and was one of the reasons he learned Japanese. He's glad his brother has a good, cute girlfriend. Ducky's oddly more congenial and quick to jump to her aid, but he thinks that's just because she's his brother's girlfriend. Things that make you go hmm.
Nuna Nuna — *____* She has become a Nuna to him and he loves her to the ends of the earth~! Ducky feels like he can confide in her about a lot of things. So, she is more than just a celebrity that's given him a chance to shine. She is a source of his confidence and he values her opinion greatly.
Sora — He's the kinda guy that leaves an impression on others, to say the least! He loves his art and manga alike, and really treasures the one he did of just Ducky! Obviously he is cooler than everyone to know a true blue mangaka. Ducky's glad they keep in touch!
Yunie — Badass girl he's been friends with since the outbreak. He's been teaching her how to use a sword, but fears that one day the pupil will one day outdo the teacher. She's just that good. Works at her sex toy shop whenever he's in Seoul.

Heechul — He's awesome and likes the same movies and he's nice! SOON TO BE FRIEND he suspects.
Hye-Jin — Apparently he went to high school with her! He thought she looked familiar. She's kind of a weird pill to swallow, but so is he, right? She doesn't seem so bad.
Jade — Ducky remembers meeting him way back at the Peace Concert. He is a seriously nice guy, so Ducky took to him easily. He appreciates anyone who gets a kick out of his oh-so very amazing name when pronounced in English!
